easter reflection: Last Supper

If you haven’t already, read the story Last Supper

Perhaps one of the most well known stories from the new testament, the events of that last night with his disciples are retold almost every week whenever followers of Jesus gather together. But have you ever stopped to consider what it would have been like to actually be there?

Imagine, if you can, having your feet washed by the person you looked up to the most; your mentor, your professor, your pastor, your boss or even your own mother or father.

How would that make you feel? Would you allow it?

Jesus asked them, “Do you understand what I have done? Since I have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow.”

Have you ever thought about what Jesus meant when he said, “I have given you an example to follow.”

What is the example he has given us? And what implications does understanding that example have in your own life?

Before you continue, spend a few moments reflecting on what this story might be saying to you right now. If you need to, read it through again slowly.

As you think about the people around you, in what ways might you be able to follow Jesus’ example?

Is God placing someone on your mind right now? If so, why not commit to finding an opportunity this week to act on what you believe God is saying to do for them. It could be a simple gesture of kindness, an encouraging word or a small gift. It might be huge and life changing – for both them and you.

Record your reflections, observations and questions in your personal journal and feel free to share what you are learning in the comments below.
